MEETING PROTOCOL

First timers: meet us at the mine between 8AM and 9AM
(click the directions tab above for details)

Please note that the Hogg Mine is a federally permitted mine. Do NOT visit unless: You have permission. You have a scheduled private dig. You are visiting on a public or machine dig date. We are open to the public on Saturdays ONLY.

Once you arrive at the mine, look for a crew member who is helping park cars.

DO NOT choose your own spot. Our crew must guide cars to appropriate spots so that there is enough room for everyone to come and go throughout the day.

ONCE YOU ARE PARKED, REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE.

The crew will come around to each vehicle, take your payment, and give further instructions after.

How it works for a public dig on Saturday:

When you arrive, we will get you parked. If this is your first trip to the mine, you will need to participate in the State Required Safety Briefing. We will take your payment (cash if possible). and direct you to the location of the safety briefing. We will cover what to look for and where to dig. Once you are briefed, you can collect your tools and head into the mine to dig for treasures.

Note: This is an actual mining experience. This means that you do have to work, and you do have to dig. Be prepared to get dirty. All of the stones at the Hogg Mine are native to the property. We do not salt anything to make it easy so come prepared to move lots of dirt. if you work hard and dig you will find great material. Mining in general is not easy, and the stones are not as abundant as the YouTube influencers make it seem. Some of them dig a couple of days to have enough footage to make a video.

Do we buy gemstones? Not from The Hogg Mine, but if you have crystals or cutting rough from other mines, we might be interested. It never hurts to bring them and let us have a look.
